Artwalk during a Pandemic

Painted during a Pandemic Artwalk
Painted during a Pandemic Artwalk

I worked on a small painting during the Lee’s Summit Mo Fourth Friday Artwalk.  I was invited to show and paint at Poppy’s Ice Cream and Coffee House, 307 SE Douglas, Lee’s Summit, Mo 64063 during the Artwalk.

I love doing the Artwalk but this was so different than the other artwalk’s I have participated in. Painting and showing live during a pandemic was an enlightening experience.  It was also very uplifting as the staff and customers alike were courteous and friendly while adhering to the social distancing and masks requirements set out by the state, county and city.

One group of customers, students who had participated in part of the Artwalk functions, was especially uplifting.  Their sponsors and the young teens were courteous, respectful and curious about the art.  I was happy to answer their questions and talk to them about their art experience.  It was refreshing to be able to chat and engage with young budding artists.  I can only hope that when we get back to “normal” that their art experiences continue at their schools and outings.  It would be a shame if their enthusiasm was squelched or worse, discouraged.  Listening to them was a delightful distraction from our current world events and situations.

The Artwalk was a delightful and much needed break from the current events which are overwhelming our day to day lives . And  it gave me hope of a return to a brighter and better world if we all just talk and listen to each other with respect, curiosity and willingness to learn from and about others and our world in person.

So don’t be afraid to get out, taking whatever precautions you need to, and  engage with people in person. You may be amazed at the results.

Happily painting during a pandemic,
